Bull Run’s Wildest Minority: Women Charging Ahead, Bulls Still Confused

Pamplona, Spain — Despite mounting calls for equity in almost every arena—boardrooms, tech companies, and even the Bachelor’s rose ceremonies—the number of women voluntarily running several blocks ahead of agitated horned beasts in Pamplona’s San Fermín festival remains suspiciously low.

“What do women want?” lamented festival co-organizer Javier Torero. “If not to be chased by enraged 1,400-pound Iberian bulls on slippery cobblestone streets, wearing all white with an inexplicably red scarf?”

The annual Running of the Bulls continues to be overwhelmingly male-dominated, with brave women making up approximately 3% of participants each year—nearly the same percentage as women who voluntarily attempt to fix uncooperative printers in their offices. Experts say the numbers are puzzling.

Studies conducted by the Institute for Sensible Life Choices reveal that, globally, women are 87% more likely than men to “prefer not being gored repeatedly by livestock before 9:00 AM.” Calls for inclusion have led festival officials to consider outreach programs, including “Ladies’ Night (of Terror)” and pink-ribboned bullhorns—but the results were, politely put, underwhelming.

Local woman Carolina Morales, who ran last year, described the experience: “It’s empowering until you realize the bull doesn’t care about gender diversity statistics,” she said, limping out of the ER. “Equal opportunity or not, those horns are a universal experience.”

A new push for “Running With Bulls But Slower,” where participants walk briskly behind well-fed, nap-prone calves, has drawn interest from both thrill-seekers and those trying to close their exercise rings.

Until then, sources say, women may continue to run the world—but most will let others run from the bulls. For the record, the bulls remain deeply egalitarian, providing adrenaline-inducing chase scenes to all.
