In what some are calling “the least exciting episode of Air Crash Investigation ever,” India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has ordered a full-scale inspection of Boeing 787 and 737 fuel switch systems by July 21, citing a bold new strategy of “better safe than literally on fire.”

Sources from inside DGCA revealed the order was triggered not by actual mechanical issues but after one inspector repeatedly failed to locate the “petrol” option on his flight simulator. “It was diesel or jet fuel, no petrol anywhere,” he lamented. “Very suspicious.”

Boeing responded to the directive with a statement: “We take every inspection seriously. We would, however, like to remind all regulatory bodies that taping a sticky note labeled ‘ON’ over the switch is not an approved solution.”

To ensure compliance, aviation authorities have distributed special fuel switch checklists apparently inspired by IKEA furniture instructions: “Step 1: Confirm the switch exists. Step 2: Flip it. Step 3: Flip it again if it didn’t do anything the first time.”

Pilots have met the news with both relief and confusion. Captain Rohit Malik of Air Randomia commented, “I’ve always wondered what that switch did. Once I used it as a cup holder.”

Meanwhile, airlines have entered a bidding war for professional ‘switch-flippers’—retired train conductors, light switch-enthusiasts, and even one energetic toddler—promising free in-flight samosas as compensation.

Frequent flyer Bharat Gupta sees a silver lining: “Anything that reduces chances of an engine quitting mid-flight is good. But if my flight’s delayed because a guy in a jumpsuit flipped the switch the wrong way, I’m demanding extra peanuts!”

Passengers are advised to stay calm unless the pilot comes over the PA to ask, “Does anyone here know how to reboot a 737?”
