In the most unexpected temple plot twist since the invention of electronic prayer wheels, Thai police have apprehended a woman accused of seducing and blackmailing Buddhist monks, shattering both the monks’ meditative silence and the illusion that nothing exciting ever happens at monasteries.

According to authorities, the woman — whose name has not been released but whose dating profile probably contains alarming references to “enlightenment” and “no-strings-attached karma” — cleverly infiltrated multiple temples under the guise of seeking spiritual guidance. Instead, police say, she sought to guide certain monks straight to moral bankruptcy.

Witnesses report that one senior monk, famous for his 40 years of serenity, went from contemplating Nirvana to frantically searching for the “Block Contact” option in his life. “She asked for my wisdom, then my phone number, and suddenly, my bank account!” he lamented, clutching a beaded necklace now less for meditation and more as a stress toy.

The suspect allegedly used recorded “private meditation sessions” to blackmail her targets, threatening to leak the footage. Monks, usually experts in detachment, found themselves unusually attached—to their wallets, their reputations, and, one presumes, their robes.

Authorities have called this a “deeply troubling incident,” while the monks themselves hope that if nothing else, these events will deter future “tantric scammers.” Meanwhile, local abbot’s have updated their temple signage: “No Shoes, No Shirt, No Seduction.”

The woman is currently in custody, considering her options and possibly writing a book, “How to Lose Friends and Influence Monks.”

Police advise monks to vet all future visitors—and that “seeking enlightenment” does not require a six-pack of Yakult and a suggestive wink.
