BRENTWOOD, TN – In a blazing spectacle of questionable life choices, Brentwood authorities have apprehended a local man accused of impersonating a firefighter and, for good measure, commandeering an actual fire truck. Witnesses say the only thing he set on fire was the town’s faith in background checks.
The suspect, identified as Dale “Backdraft” Stanwick, reportedly arrived at the scene of a reported barbecue mishap, sirens wailing, wearing what sources describe as “a suspiciously clean firefighter costume, complete with dollar-store badge and fresh-from-the-bag helmet.” Neighbors initially cheered as Dale leapt out and demanded, “Where’s the WiFi password? Er, I mean, where’s the fire?”
Authorities grew suspicious when Dale attempted to extinguish a propane grill with a garden hose, then insisted everyone say “cheese” for his “rescue selfie.” Sources further report he tried to barter free hot dogs for “essential rescue services.”
“He said he was there to save the day,” said resident Linda Hodge, “but then he started negotiating ride-alongs for his Tinder dates. That’s when we called 911. Again.”
Police arrived to find Dale behind the wheel of the fire truck, using the loudspeaker to announce, “If anyone needs their cats rescued from emotional distress, please form an orderly line.” He was arrested without incident, though he did shout, “This is entrapment!” before being gently handed a juice box.
In response, Brentwood’s Fire Department reminded citizens: “Real firefighters ask for Gatorade, not hot dogs. Please do not surrender heavy vehicles to people wearing rubber boots with the tags still on.”
As for Dale, he’s facing charges of impersonating a public servant, theft of a municipal vehicle, and attempting to recruit a firehouse Dalmatian as his ‘wingman.’ The truck is back where it belongs, though some locals swear it now smells faintly of burnt hot dog water and Axe body spray.
