World War II D-Day veteran and accidental TikTok sensation Papa Jake Lawson has peacefully “logged off” at age 99, leaving fans saluting and learning dance routines in his memory. Known for storming the beaches of Normandy and then later, storming the “For You Page,” Papa Jake blended war stories and viral trends with a precision not seen since the Allies’ military strategy.

Family members say Papa Jake first became a TikTok star after mistakenly downloading the app, thinking it was a new heart medication. After his grandkids showed him how to film, his first post—“How to Storm a Beach (And Your Neighbor’s Backyard BBQ)”—instantly racked up millions of likes. “He was the original ‘OK boomer’…only, you couldn’t argue with his combat record,” said his granddaughter, who manages his account, @StorminJake.

Papa Jake quickly went viral for his D-Day dance tutorials, historical reaction videos (“Reacting to Modern Warfare: They Do WHAT to Their Hair?”), and brutally honest makeup tips. He even participated in the controversial #NormandyShuffle challenge, which led to the brief, infamous trend of TikTokers attempting to crawl through their own yards in full army gear.

“He was the triple-threat: fought Nazis, roasted Gen Z, and sick with the floss,” a fan commented under his last video, in which he reenacted the invasion of Normandy using LEGO bricks and a suspiciously accurate toy tank.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests followers duet his last post and shout “Incoming!” whenever their phone rings. Plans are underway for a final livestream from his funeral, titled “One Last March For Papa Jake.”

Rest easy, Papa Jake: defeating fascism, defeating the algorithm, and reminding us none of us can quite pull off helmet hair.
