In a lawsuit that has the medical and musical communities in disbelief—and mixing up their playlists—a local family is suing St. Minor’s Hospital after surgery went off-key in more ways than one. Allegedly, the surgical team was engaged in the latest hospital craze: “Music Bingo,” where doctors mark off song titles as they randomly play on the OR’s Spotify account. Tragically, the event ended not with a shout of “Bingo!” but a call to the hospital’s legal department.

According to court documents, what was supposed to be a routine gallbladder removal quickly turned into a high-stakes round of distraction. “We’re not saying their rendition of ‘Stayin’ Alive’ was ironic, but the timing was *really* unfortunate,” said hospital spokesperson Paige Chagrin.

Surgeons reportedly became so enthralled with their game—arguing whether a muffled ballad was “Total Eclipse of the Heart” or “Like a Surgeon”—that the procedure notes may have included bizarre lyrics in addition to vital signs. “If they’d yelled ‘clear!’ instead of ‘Bingo!’, we might not be here today,” lamented one family member.

Defending themselves, the surgeons argued that music has always played a role in medicine’s healing powers. “We’re trendsetters!” declared Dr. Melody Scalpel. “First, people complained about us streaming concerts in the OR. Now we invent music bingo, and suddenly we’re in trouble?”

The hospital administration disagrees, announcing a new policy: only podcasts about surgery are allowed during operations—and absolutely no prizes for yelling “Scalpel!” in a sing-along. Meanwhile, medical device manufacturers are racing to develop a surgical tool that doubles as a bingo marker, “for research purposes only.”

As the case heads to court, legal experts warn that if surgeons win, courtroom karaoke could be next: “Objection! That’s my song!”

Stay tuned, and always be careful who’s DJ-ing your next appendectomy.
