In a bewildering turn of events, the notorious hacker collective “Pixel Predators” abruptly released their hostage Tuesday morning after discovering his digital wallet contained a staggering £6.71—roughly enough to buy a coffee and a half in central London, or a full meal if you’re willing to brave the midweek Tesco meal deal.
The victim, 29-year-old Gary Ledger, described the experience as “weirdly anticlimactic.” He was ambushed during a routine tweetstorm about the future of decentralized finance, then forcibly placed into a dimly lit Zoom breakout room. The abductors demanded the contents of his crypto wallet, not realizing the only asset in it was a likely-forgotten coin called “Dogeball Inu.”
“Honestly, I was expecting at least a couple of grand. Maybe a vintage NFT or a rare Pepe,” lamented Pixel Predators leader @SatoshiWannabe69 during an exclusive Discord voice call with TheJestPress.com. “But £6.71? I spent more in gas fees to transfer that out.”
Negotiations—which consisted mostly of aggressive emoji exchanges and a single GIF of a wallet with cobwebs—rapidly lost steam. At one point, a kidnapper even offered to give Gary a fiver to “just keep quiet about this embarrassment.”
Gary, now considering writing an e-book titled “How My Student Loan Saved My Life,” confessed, “Thank goodness I invested in crypto during the 2021 hype. I haven’t had any money since.”
Authorities have issued a warning to would-be kidnappers: “Next time, check your victim’s Coinbase balance before orchestrating an elaborate international extortion scheme. Or just stick to demanding pizza.”
Meanwhile, Gary is back to his old life—budgeting carefully, tweeting vigorously, and holding on to his dream that maybe, just maybe, Dogeball Inu will moon.
