In a thrilling development that has left New Zealand’s laundry lines in tatters, a local feline named Sir Whiskers Wellington has been dubbed the “Underwear Bandit” after carrying out a purr-fect crime spree across the sleepy suburb of Meadowville.

Sir Whiskers, described by his owner as “adorably unrepentant,” has become notorious for turning the family home into a smuggler’s den packed with pilfered panties, bras, socks, and—his pièce de résistance—a neighbor’s sequined thong. When asked for comment, the elderly cat simply blinked, licked his paw, and started kneading a pair of Calvin Klein boxers like a seasoned mob boss.

Residents report feelings ranging from bemused admiration to deep concern for the fate of their favorite socks. “I hung my laundry out to dry and BOOM, gone!” proclaimed local man Brent McAllister. “Next thing I know, there’s a trail of men’s briefs across my backyard like tiny white flags of surrender.”

With neighborhood watch groups now on high alert, local authorities have been flooded with reports. “We’re urging folks not to take matters into their own hands,” said Constable Fiona O’Neill, “unless they’re prepared to negotiate with a cat who has no respect for boundaries—or garment ownership.”

Meanwhile, Sir Whiskers appears unfazed, reportedly working on a book deal for his tell-all memoir, “Nine Lives, Ninety-Nine Underpants.” Rumor has it he’s also started a small Etsy shop.

As the klepto-cat’s legend grows, Meadowville awaits the next daring daylight raid. Until then, residents are urged to keep laundry indoors and their thongs under lock and key. On the bright side, at least someone is giving the neighborhood a reason to keep their pants on.
