THE HAGUE—In a move that has confused, amused, and slightly embarrassed international observers, the International Criminal Court (ICC) has officially referred Hungary to its oversight body for stubbornly refusing to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, despite a standing arrest warrant and multiple strongly worded emails.

Hungarian officials cited a number of “very legitimate” reasons for their reluctance, including unfamiliarity with proper handcuffing procedures, a sudden outbreak of diplomatic etiquette, and the discovery that Netanyahu had “quite a firm handshake” making any attempted arrest physically daunting.

“We simply couldn’t go through with it,” confessed a Hungarian spokesperson, eating goulash and sweating profusely. “We hosted a lovely visit. He signed our guestbook, tried our paprika, and kept asking if we had any extradition treaties—jokingly, I think. It got awkward.”

The ICC’s oversight body, an organization often confused for a book club due to its “stern looks and limited actual power,” has scheduled a meeting to discuss potential punitive measures against Hungary. Among the suggested penalties: mandatory reruns of the Eurovision Song Contest, withdrawal of all diplomatic fidget spinners, and, worst of all, being forced to actually attend an ICC seminar on “How to Arrest Heads of State (For Real This Time)”.

Hungary isn’t alone in sidestepping the hot potato; several other nations have reportedly misplaced the “how-to” manual for high-profile arrests. Meanwhile, Netanyahu, who is now rumored to only travel with a decoy double and a suitcase full of fake mustaches, was last seen boarding a flight labeled “Definitely Not To Hungary Again”.

The ICC, for its part, remains optimistic: “We remain committed to justice and hope all states cooperate—or at the very least, read our emails,” said one official while copying-and-pasting the arrest warrant for the fifth time.

Stay tuned as international justice marches valiantly forward, in slightly crooked formation.
