It’s Raining Grants! Education Department to Unleash Billions Like a Piñata at a Kindergarten Birthday

In a shocking twist, the U.S. Department of Education announced today that it will finally release *billions* in previously withheld grant money for schools nationwide, ending what teachers have started calling “The Great Pencil Famine of 2024.”

“We know schools have gotten used to fiscal fasting,” said Education Secretary C.R. O’Clair, pausing to stuff a duffel bag with crisp Federal Reserve-issued bills. “But we felt it was time to let schools splurge on extra whiteboard markers, actual library books, and maybe, dare I say… gym mats without mysterious stains.”

The sudden cash infusion has led to scenes of unbridled euphoria in teachers’ lounges coast to coast. “There were rumors this day would never come,” whispered Mrs. Finkelstein, clutching a brand-new stapler. “I’d planned to retire on the black market resale of confiscated fidget spinners instead. Now maybe I’ll just upgrade my classroom’s hamster wheel to a Peloton.”

School administrators, known for their cautious budgeting, are now facing an unfamiliar dilemma: how to spend money without being haunted by the ghost of budget cuts past. “We’ve already bought double-ply toilet paper for every stall,” said Principal Dawes. “I’m thinking a bronze statue of the Homecoming Queen, or—dare I say—replacing those 1998 computers we keep in quarantine.”

Meanwhile, students barely noticed. “Are they finally getting us air conditioning?” asked 5th grader Jessica, fanning herself with a textbook missing Chapter 7 and most of Chapter 9.

The Education Department clarified there are “no strings attached,” meaning schools may frivolously purchase as many 3-D printers, band instruments, or cafeteria tater tots as their hearts, and budgets, desire—at least until someone realizes they also need to fix the front doors.
