JAKARTA – In a move that has left anime fans scratching their straw hats, Indonesia’s Minister of Human Rights yesterday announced an immediate ban on the public display of the “One Piece” pirate flag, citing concerns over “unregulated piracy, dangerous headgear, and the overuse of catchphrases.”

The decree comes after the Ministry was alerted to a sudden uptick in suspicious activity: local teens running around in sandals, large groups gathering to yell “Nakama!” at bewildered traffic cops, and at least three attempted Grand Line expeditions on inflatable pool toys.

Minister Subagio Hartono defended the decision: “Indonesia is a proud maritime nation, but we cannot stand idly by while our youth embrace piracy—cartoon piracy or otherwise. Today it’s a flag with a grinning skull and a straw hat. Tomorrow it’s ordering sea kings on GoFood.”

Several citizen groups have welcomed the move, complaining that the proliferation of “Jolly Roger cosplay” has led to confusion at border checkpoints, intense debates over Devil Fruit import regulations, and an alarming surge in amateur swordplay. But not everyone is convinced.

“I was just trying to find the One Piece,” protested local student Riko Saputra, donning the now-contraband flag as a cape. “The only thing I’m guilty of is believing in friendship…and maybe smuggling pocky into math class.”

Human rights organizations, meanwhile, have expressed skepticism about the priorities of the ministry. “Last week’s ban on elaborate ninja headbands is still unresolved,” noted Amnesty International’s regional office. “What’s next? Outlawing Spirited Away bath tokens?”

While pirate flags may be off-limits, the Minister noted that fake treasure maps and mysterious talking reindeer remain “under review.” Indonesian anime fans are advised to keep their dreams—if not their flags—firmly in check until further notice.
