In what experts are calling “a record-breaking case of dinner and a debate,” a Jewish passenger flying Iberia Airlines this week was shocked to receive his kosher meal with a helping of unsolicited international relations: “Free Palestine” graffiti scrawled across the food packaging.

Eyewitnesses report that David Goldstein, 38, asked only for a kosher meal but inadvertently received an appetizer of Middle Eastern geopolitics, neatly written in what could only be described as aggressive hummus ink. The airline’s in-flight menu boasts an “authentic multicultural cuisine experience,” but, according to Goldstein, “this wasn’t what I meant when I asked for extra spice.”

The surprise inscription arrived with a side of confusion. Speaking from 35,000 feet, Goldstein commented, “Normally, my biggest inflight concern is whether the chicken is dry. Now, I’m wondering if my matzo ball soup comes with a ceasefire agreement.”

In a statement, Iberia’s spokesperson said, “We strive to accommodate the dietary and political needs of all our passengers. However, the in-flight catering staff may have gone above and beyond—if not slightly outside the bounds of professionalism—by spicing up the meal with current affairs.”

Meanwhile, Iberia’s head chef, Paco García, denied any responsibility, stating, “We just follow the passenger manifest; we don’t add international incident as a sauce. Someone must’ve confused the olive tapenade label with activism.”

Human rights groups are demanding answers, and the customer complaint line has reportedly been jammed with requests for “neutral meals—hold the manifestos.”

Iberia has since promised to retrain staff, remind them that salt and pepper are the only acceptable additions to food, and confirmed that all future messages left on kosher meals will be limited to “Bon Appétit” and, where appropriate, “Shalom.”
